The plot on the edge of the city offers a spectacular view over Linz – if you only stand high enough to look over the neighbours. That is why the ground floor is about 6 m above street level, with the pleasant side effect that, despite the extremely steep slope, the garden west and north of the living rooms is at the same level.

With a maximum permitted footprint of 200 m² per floor, it was not easy to fit in the programme for the family of five, especially as all main functions had to be on the living floor; an upper floor was not wanted.

Only the children's wing has an additional level; by stacking over the access and sanitary level, each child's room got a gallery with its own children's balcony.

The main access (also the drive into the generous garage area) cuts spectacularly into the embankment; from the entrance, a straight-flight staircase leads both up to the living floor and to the cloakroom and wellness area, set slightly apart from the entrance. The sauna opens onto a secluded rock garden in the north of the property.

The dark golden brown of the mosaic tiles inside and on the façade corresponds with the exposed concrete surfaces made with rough-sawn formwork; the far-projecting roof covers extensive terraces whose timber decks continue the wide floorboards of the living areas. The indoor and outdoor living areas are separated only by a delicate all-glass system that can be opened across large areas.
