a roof for all eventualities!
besides covering the required primary functions of the music school and rehearsal, the large green roof takes on further important functions:
_integrating the bus stop / arrival by shuttle; a covered public open space with an arena (seating steps)
_covering the step-free access to the primary school (a dry connection; no snow clearing…)
_external sun protection / no overheating in summer
_creating open space directly linked to the primary school classrooms (when the primary school is renovated, opening the classrooms onto their own outdoor classrooms could be considered; the fall protection must be designed according to any possible use of the green-roof area!)
architectural and structural concept, materials
all functions of the music school (southern part) and rehearsal area (northern part) are on one level, which, besides allocating shared areas such as the foyer to both functions, also makes it possible to do without an expensive lift. if desired, however, the lift needed in future for the primary school can be extended into the foyer of the music school. the building develops “out of the slope” from the south and west and, towards the village centre, creates a clear landmark through the arrangement of hall / foyer and the far-projecting canopy; this underlines the “public function” of the building, including the arrival area for pupils. the structure consists partly of cast-in-place reinforced concrete in watertight concrete (walls and floors in contact with the ground) and partly of lightweight steel construction with precast concrete columns. the spans of the hall/foyer (max 10 m) and canopy cantilever (max 8 m) are built very economically as an insulated steel truss structure that also integrates the ventilation ducts. the shallow-pitched membrane roof carries an extensive green roof; the visible façades are highly insulated, ventilated timber panels alternating with fixed triple glazing
