the oldest parts of the historic, almost picture-book farmhouse in ramseiden, directly above the centre of saalfelden / salzburg, date from the 13th century. to extend the living space, the attractive old walls got an addition in 2005. the volume docked onto the north side, built from prefabricated timber elements, consists of two rooms of equal size separated by an axial, fully glazed open space. the roof of the extension serves as a terrace for the flat above. the staircase between new and old building gives direct access to the garden and could also serve as an entrance if the new unit were ever separated off. the eastern room capsule houses the bedroom and bathroom and tilts its large glazing outwards at an angle, while the window of the western living room looks up to the sky.
the floor plan of the simple existing house was modified so that two independent homes with separate access can coexist, giving two families a home.
construction: prefabricated timber elements
outer skin: polyurea film, sprayed on as the last layer of the building
