submitted as an extension but actually autonomous, the building serves as a home for a mother and child and is located on the child's grandparents' partly wooded plot on the south-west slope of linz's pöstlingberg.

“docked” onto the old house in terms of infrastructure, the building nevertheless contains all primary functions such as bathroom, kitchen, heating and hot water.

the constraints of the plot and the budget limited the size of the building; consistently rational planning saved construction time and costs. for example, the dimensions and structural grid of the building were based on the delivery sizes of the osb boards, and the whole structure was planned as lightweight construction with heavy insulation. the partly prefabricated elements could thus be placed in just a few days on the few screw foundations installed beforehand.

the building was deliberately designed “not for eternity”; depending on future life circumstances it can easily be removed again, but also extended; a nearby garden shed serves as a “building-plot reserve”.

construction: timber / steel / chipboard

outer skin: glass-fibre-reinforced pvc membrane

load-bearing laminated safety glass element as structurally active corner glazing

sanitary unit = free-standing box in the room, usable on top as a “guest bed”

the entire building rests on steel beams connected to a strip foundation.
