Apart from the new bank building, the surroundings consist of relatively small buildings of no more than three storeys. In trying to embed the required volume harmoniously in its surroundings, the entry focuses particularly on height, which is why the new buildings are planned with three storeys, like the long “department store” next door, to form a uniform street front with it and the other buildings along the main road (Unterlindenstraße and Bützestraße). This also keeps the new volumes in scale with the even lower housing behind.
The clearly orthogonal building form (main building and medical practice building) allows a very economical column and slab structure in a reinforced concrete–timber hybrid. The proportion of timber should be as high as possible and be reflected especially in the exterior, as a shingle-style timber façade. Above the see-through ground floors with large glazed areas, the upper floors appear as clear, closed timber volumes with playfully arranged individual windows (main building) and band-like timber-and-glass façades with an open office character (practice building).
