The new BG/BRG Gerasdorf is a school that conveys to its users built and lived sustainability . It does so through careful use of its surroundings and resources, spatial flexibility, varied spaces that build community, and biodiversity you can experience.
The three-storey building , consisting of four offset volumes, extends along the north–south axis of the site. Three of the four volumes house the learning clusters of six classrooms each. The heart of the school is formed by a slightly larger volume. It contains the special teaching rooms, reached via a generous staircase. Additional break areas, outdoor classrooms and, at the centre, a green courtyard make the middle of the new school feel lively and full of light. The timber construction with exposed wood surfaces inside radiates warmth and comfort. Outside, the new BG/BRG presents itself with a band façade of glass and vertical white-glazed timber; thanks to their inclination at the lintel they provide natural shading , and at the parapet they hold planters that allow greening of the façade .
