Urban design concept:
The site's identity as a generous green oasis in the middle of the city is to be preserved with the new development. To this end, the total building mass is divided into separate buildings by function (teaching and research building, canteen, library), between which the open space can continue to flow visually and the views across the whole green oasis are preserved. With or without the extension building, the buildings form a campus ensemble in which a see-through foyer on the central campus square connects all buildings. The campus ensemble is deliberately set back far enough from the street that the campus square, the foyer and the individual buildings have a view over the adjacent commercial buildings to the Plassenburg. Within the ensemble, the long five-storey teaching and research building shields against the noise of the railway line and the bypass road to the north. In contrast, the canteen (two storeys) and library (three storeys + roof garden) appear as lower pavilions in the green space to the south.

Minimise sealing, improve the microclimate
Making the canteen and library multi-storey (while keeping the necessary functional relationships) minimises the degree of sealing compared with single-storey designs. Green façades and roofs also have a positive effect on the microclimate.

External and internal circulation:
All car parking spaces are located north of the ensemble, with a short link to the foyer. Separately, a delivery road from the north serves the teaching and research building and the canteen directly, and the library via the foyer. The footbridge and cycle bridge leads to the campus forecourt and the foyer behind it. The vertical circulation of each building connects directly to the foyer.
