urban design
in urban terms, the site is in very heterogeneous surroundings.
along its edge facing the public road, the building takes up the main directions of the adjacent buildings.
this creates a wedge of green along the street as a buffer between public and private.
architecture / organisation
flats on the edge of the city with “green” surroundings are meant to appeal above all to young families and the like. more than half the flats have tenants' gardens; the rest have terraces or loggias.
the flats – mostly designed as maisonettes like terraced houses – also offer a high degree of individuality; this variety can also be read in the exterior and the façade. the loggias (“eyes”) mark the living rooms, the smaller windows in different geometries the bedrooms.
so to speak at the “heart” of the building, at the geometric centre of the ground floor and connected to the staircase, is a common / children's play room with its own (play) garden with sandpit and climbing facilities.
communal area (play and meet)
the communal area consists of a timber deck with a sunken sandpit and a hard-rubber surface with a play hill. there is also a long multi-purpose element for sitting and lying. despite its small size, the area is meant to encourage play, communication and community in the housing complex.
