trade fair stand AMI – Agrolinz Melamine International

reusable trade fair stand, designed for K04 in düsseldorf, october 04

concept: to counter the hectic pace and sensory overload of the exhibition halls, a “room within a room” was created which, through its colours and acoustic properties, radiates a sense of security and invites visitors to linger.

the colours of the textile surfaces are those of the company logo. the threefold winding also corresponds to the AMI logo. the two ends of the loop running out form the two entrance zones; the association with a “red carpet” underlines the gesture.

depending on the viewing angle, the space appears open or closed. the spatial body stands free within the deliberately restrained stand boundary of white curtain fabric, which bears only the letters of the company logo. inside, standing tables alternate, where company staff provide information. those who prefer to be informed in a comfortable position take a seat at one of the screen terminals, where AMI image films can be watched. next to the screens, seats “peel” out of the inner shell of the spatial spiral. the comfortable seating position increases the desire to linger.

the atmosphere of the space is largely shaped by the lighting inside. points of light on the standing tables correspond with linear indirect light, which runs together with the required sprinkler pipes and lights the upper surfaces without glare.

construction / material: a double-shell lightweight timber construction, divided into 5 prefabricated developed sections per loop, is the space-defining element. each part can be handled by 2–3 people and houses the cabling for lighting and IT. the parts can be connected quickly and are reusable. they are covered with a felt-like textile or black artificial leather.
