at the bottom of the kanzelwandbahn valley run, the new tourism facilities – umbrella and snack bar, après-ski bar, ski and boot depot and an extended ski workshop – form an arena for every wish connected with skiing.
the different functions of the individual buildings are expressed in different architectural languages, joined as an ensemble into the “platform”.
the buffer between skiing and après-ski is a ski and boot depot with customer service, standing free on the piste.
the box is built as a transparent steel-and-glass construction, matching the technical character of the sports equipment and allowing views through to the existing buildings behind. at the foot of the box, the old kessler timber house, with its extended ski workshop on the ground floor, frames the “platform”. the run-out zone is captured in a funnel shape as a timber terrace, extending the ski slope to a bow-shaped viewing level.
the umbrella bar, champagne bar and snack box serve this terrace as free-standing furniture. the flanks of the platform gradually grow out of the slope, joined with the timber terrace by horizontal timber cladding into a homogeneous, organically shaped timber volume.
this movement is broken by a cantilevered frame structure, aimed as a picture frame at the striking ifen on the other side of the valley. via a west terrace in front, the frame leads into the inside of the timber bow, the “wettertätsch” après-ski bar. the timber cladding of the outer façade follows this movement and forms the backlit rear wall of the bar.
from the depth of the slope, following the curved outer form, rock-like natural stone forms the counterpoint to the timber surface.
