The new centre of Marquartstein
The Bavarian triad that currently loosely outlines the centre of Marquartstein is completed into a real village square with a learning house and a culture house. Targeted densification and the continuation of existing spatial edges define a clear, central place. The result is a clearly framed urban space in interplay with maximised green space, made available to the people of Marquartstein as a new park.
Two houses
Architecturally, the concept provides for two independent volumes: a school house and a culture house. In their form, the buildings draw on the pitched-roof houses typical of the village, which here, however, merge into a striking double gable. The “learning house”, which acts as the spatial counterpart to the town hall, is finished in rough white render. In contrast, the “culture house” takes on the role of a central village barn – traditionally often used for cultural events – and accordingly presents itself with an inviting timber façade.
